Beaufort Stars in Affordable Homes Project
September 2006

Aluminium systems supplier Beaufort Secure Design has secured a window and door installation package on a major new build contract by Botes Construction on behalf of Acton Housing Association. The contract requires over 600 windows and 400 residential doors in apartment blocks in Surrey using Beaufort's Advanced Polyamide System.

The £14 million development consists of 208 properties in ten multi-storey blocks on a brownfield site in Whyteleafe. Designed as affordable homes for key workers, the apartments are being built to BRE EcoHomes standards. This includes the specification of energy efficient windows and doors, manufactured from a recyclable material. Beaufort's aluminium system not only satisfies all these requirements, but also provides a highly durable, low maintenance solution. All Beaufort's Advanced Window System window sections feature a polyamide thermal barrier enhancing thermal efficiency in compliance with Building Regulations on U-Values. The windows also have Trickle Ventilators built in to the head of the window as standard and these are fully colour matched to compliment the appearance of the windows.

A Tilt before Turn (TBT) window style has been selected for the new apartments from Beaufort's 70mm Direct Fix range. The TBT design, which offers a 90 degree turn position, is particularly well suited to this type of multi-storey building for fire escape purposes, plus convenient cleaning from the inside. An internally glazed option was chosen for security, simpler installation and ease of glass replacement without the need for scaffolding or scissor hoists. All windows and doors feature secure locking to BS 7950 via Secured by Design licensed multipoint mechanisms.

Complimentary residential doors from Beaufort's 70mm Direct Fix system are also being fabricated and installed by Fourstar Windows for the contract, complete with Beaufort's low threshold option to comply with Document M of the Building Regulations. All doors and windows are being supplied in a smart Graphite Grey finish (RAL 7024). Beaufort's stock and special colours are produced to comply with BS 6496: 1984 and are highly resistant to the pollution and grime that can discolour many other types of frames.
